Recently, Thijs Alkemade published a three-part blog post on "The State of TLS security on XMPP". Part 1 covers the quality of TLS encryption on client-to-server (c2s) connections, while part 2 covers server-to-server (s2s) connections (and part 3 covers clients, not of interest in this article). Thijs also graded encryption quality, and as it turns out, was in the top-spot in encryption quality. Although our server has proven to be very reliable in the past, our server does have downtimes just like any other. When our server is down, it is impossible to use to send updates to our users (like when our server will be back up again). For that purpose, we have now created twitter-account. ... read more

Force server-to-server encryption or have connectivity?

Update. Around 60% voted for encryption of s2s connections. We have thus left encryption enabled and connection to Google Talk is no longer possible, until Google fixes their servers. We found that there are connection problems with because we require server-to-server encryption. ... read more
